Proterra Powered LLC has launched its latest H2-23 battery pack intended for Class 8 trucks and various commercial vehicle uses. The product was revealed at the ACT Expo as a component of the company's new Onyx Strata line.

The H2-23 battery pack boasts a gravimetric density of 176 Wh/kg and a volumetric density of 270 Wh/L, facilitating a 750kWh energy system for Class 8 applications and maximum total system energy of 2MWh. The battery pack contains software that adheres to SAE J1939 and ISO26262 standards along with improved security measures.

Engineered for large commercial trucks, the battery system is designed to deliver adequate range and endurance for heavy-duty transportation tasks. The technology will be showcased in various OEM cars during the ACT Expo.

“The new H2-23 battery pack represents more than just a technological advancement – it embodies our renewed focus on powering the shift to a sustainable future,” said Claire McConnell, Chief Business Officer at Proterra. “We’ve created a solution that delivers unparalleled performance even in the most challenging conditions. Every mile driven with our technology helps bring our customers closer to their zero-emission goals.”

With the H2-23 launch, Proterra unveiled its expanded Onyx Series, which comprises two platforms. The Onyx Slate offers single-layer battery setups for larger, longer commercial vehicles, providing versatile installation choices beneath or within frame rails and on the roof. The Onyx Strata provides compact battery setups aimed at optimizing energy storage in constrained areas for applications both on-road and off-road.

The new battery systems signify a segment of the continuous technological progress in the commercial vehicle electrification field, as producers strive to develop feasible options to conventional diesel-powered trucks and machinery for industrial uses.
